The practice of meditation is a part of the ‘spiritual life’. For me it’s an art that I’ve explored for over a decade. It’s the practice of letting go of all thoughts and beliefs, and focusing your attention on a particular point in your life at all times, even if that point is a thought or an action. The benefits are endless.
For me, it is a way of calming my mind. Also, it is a way of bringing me back to the present moment and making it feel as if I’m actually experiencing what I’ve been thinking and doing.
In the past I have been involved in a number of meditation events and retreats, and while Ive never had a particularly high frequency of success it has led me to believe that the practice is not only a way to relieve stress and anxiety, but also to help you achieve a balance between waking up, eating breakfast, and getting ready for work.
I went to a meditation retreat called Daoist Meditation, where a number of monks practiced tai chi for about two weeks. I was never able to commit to attending a more intensive retreat, but it was definitely a place I would recommend to those seeking a more “relaxation” experience. This is by no means the only meditation retreat in Chicago. The retreats in Colorado Springs, CO, and Boulder, CO are all excellent.
One of the things that I noticed was that the monks in Colorado, including the ones I’d seen in Denver, were very good at maintaining their focus throughout the entire retreat. I’m not sure that this is always the case, but it is a great example of how mindful people can practice meditation.
I’ve been to a few meditation retreats, and am a firm believer in the fact that meditation should be a regular part of your daily routine. If you enjoy it, you should be able to have a place that is conducive to it, and you should even be able to attend if you desire. The idea of a retreat is to get away from your normal routine for a while, but I think you should get your routine back on track as soon as possible.
Meditation is the practice of focusing your mind on a particular object for a period of time. You can do this in many different ways. One way is to simply sit and meditate for a very long time. The other is to focus your attention on a particular object for a short time before giving it focus. I find that focusing on a particular object for a short period of time is very calming.
The daoist meditation is really a form of visualization. The idea is that the daoist practitioner is looking at the object of meditation, with a clear mind looking at it. When you do this, your mind is focused on that particular object.
The problem with meditation is that it’s also a form of distraction. We all know that when we’re meditating we’re not really focused on what we’re doing, in fact, the opposite is true. We’re often trying to force the attention in on something, but our mind is still distracted by something we’re trying to focus on.
This is something you can see in the movie theater by the way. The action is focused on the person in front of you. The movie is really about the action going on in the background. The background action is more distracting than the foreground action.
