So I’m not a religious person. I consider it an accomplishment to be in a place with no other people around me. I might go to a class where no one is talking to me at the same time. I might go to a class where I’m the only person in class and no one is talking to me at the same time. I might go to a class where I’m alone and someone’s talking to me at the same time.
I think the best way to keep from getting overwhelmed with people is to go somewhere where you are alone. Whether it’s a meditation class, a class on the water, a class on an island, an outdoor dance class, whatever. Meditation classes are all about self-awareness. They can help us get in touch with our own inner monologue at a time when we’re most receptive to it.
