There are a few finger positions that I find myself doing during meditation. The first one in particular is the “finger position”. I don’t know about you, but I’m not always the most comfortable in my own skin, so I like to put my hands in these positions to relax before doing my meditation.
The other ones I mentioned are the ones that I do while I’m exercising in the morning, and on the days I’m sleeping, but the ones that I do while I’m sleeping are the ones that I find myself doing most often. These are the ones that I find are the most calming, and I’ve found them to be the most relaxing.
So I found the exercise version to be better at calming me down as well. It doesnt get tiring as much, and actually works great for most people. The meditation version on the other hand is something I have found to be very relaxing, and works well for a lot of people as well.
The exercise version of this finger position is to place your index and middle fingers on the left side of your palm, with the fingers on your thumbs and index fingers intertwined. You then pull your middle and index fingers and thumb all the way over to the right side of your palm. This position is called the Ankh (pronounced “Ank-h”) and is very calming.
I find it works best when I don’t have my hands or forehead in the same line as the meditation postures as I am more of a bottom person. If I have my hands or forehead in the same line of the meditation postures, then it may cause me to lose my balance, causing me to fall. I highly recommend trying this finger position before sitting in meditation so you can figure out which kind of position works best for you.
I can’t tell if the Ankh is a good or bad thing so I will keep my fingers crossed. However, I have never tried the meditation finger position before so I cant make a recommendation.
