That said, meditation is not simply a meditation for you to sit in a room and think about how you’re feeling. It’s also about you. Meditation means to be centered on yourself. This means you’re not about to sit down and think about all the things you’re thinking about. You’re being mindful of the thoughts that are coming into your mind. This is an important part of meditating.
In order to meditate mindfully, you have to pay attention to your thoughts. That doesn’t mean you have to get rid of them. You can always go back and refocus your mind on something else, but the more focused you get, the less likely you are to get distracted. In fact, when you’re meditating, youre likely to keep noticing the thoughts that are going on around you, and that’s going to keep you from getting sucked into them.
The thought above is an excellent example of this. I can remember a time when I was meditating and I was going through the “I’m starting to get into it” stage, when I was sure I was about to get sucked into the stream of thoughts and ideas that were going on in my mind. I was so focussed on the “I am starting to get into it,” and getting lost in my thoughts, that I didn’t notice I was standing in the middle of a waterfall.
A waterfall is a waterfall. But what happens when you get to the top of a waterfall, and the stream of thoughts and ideas is so fast and furious that you can’t even keep your balance? Well, the thing that happens then is that you find yourself at the edge of a tree trunk, with no other option but to turn around and walk back down the waterfall. This is what happens to everybody in a meditation session.
The idea of a meditation session is to stop and find yourself in a state of no-choice, or maybe a state where you have no choice. So yes, you are in a state of no-choice, but you are also in a state of being in the middle of a waterfall. You can walk down the waterfall, or you have to turn around and walk back up the waterfall. It’s like being in a car, except with more water.
I love this waterfall because it’s like a big beautiful waterfall, but with more water. In fact, this waterfall is so beautiful that it almost seems like it’s part of a video game. The water seems to not only be flowing, but it’s also sparkling and dancing.
This is a great example of the way that our minds work. We can be so immersed in our thoughts that we lose track of how water works. When we’re lost in contemplation we can’t see how the water flows, but when we turn around to check that we’re still in the middle of a waterfall we can see that all the water has stopped. You can read a book, or listen to a song, or check your email, etc.
The water streaming down the waterfall would not have to be a waterfall if it weren’t for the fact that the water also is flowing down the waterfall. We are constantly being conditioned to believe that the world is flat and that there is no space above and below. This is a very natural concept and it makes sense as we are always moving around and the “flatness” of the world is a natural part of our environment. But we also need to be aware of our bodies.
