When I meditate, I focus on the present. I make the time and space to sit and contemplate the past, what is coming up next, what is next, and what is best to do now. I’m thinking about what brings me joy, what brings me pain, what brings me fear. I’m thinking about how I can better handle my life now. I’m thinking about how I can handle my future.
That’s a lot to think about, but meditation is a great way to practice that. Meditation is also a great way to practice the art of being still and mindfully quiet. The more you meditate, the more you can become aware of your thoughts and feelings. In addition to being a way to quiet your mind, meditation is also a great way to learn about yourself and to improve your ability to observe and handle your day to day life.

I think it is absolutely possible to meditate on something and not be aware of it. But if you meditate on something and it doesn’t affect you, then you probably did it wrong. This is especially true if you haven’t been practicing mindfulness techniques for a while.
