In meditation, we focus on a certain object, usually our breath, or some such thing. And we begin to focus our attention in this direction. This practice can be a bit tricky because there are things we can do that distract us from focusing on the breath or anything else we might be focusing on. For instance, sometimes we’ll start meditating by focusing on something that isn’t even there.
But sometimes, the distraction of the object of focus can actually be quite helpful. In the same way that we might focus on something in our mind, we can focus on something outside of our mind. This can allow us to focus on whatever is going on in the world around us. As hard as it might be sometimes, we can start to see that we are not in the center of our mind, but that we are actually moving outside of it.
The thing about meditation is that most people find it hard to focus on something outside of themselves. But being able to focus outside of yourself can actually be quite helpful. There are a lot of different things that you can focus on, and a lot of those things can actually be quite useful. One way is to focus on whatever that is that you are focusing on. For instance, if you are thinking of eating a huge bowl of ice cream, you can focus on that.
Well, that sounds a bit weird, but focus on what you are focusing on, and you can actually make some great progress. If you are thinking, “I want to eat ice cream,” you can focus on that. If you’re thinking, “I want to go to bed,” you can focus on that. If you’re thinking, “I want to sit in my office chair,” you can focus on that.
And if you are thinking, I want to meditate on how cool my new computer is, you can focus on that too. If you are thinking, I want to go to a movie tonight, you can focus on that. If you are thinking, I want to go to the gym, you can focus on that. If you are thinking, I need to exercise for my health, you can focus on that.
I can totally picture a computer in my head as a focus object. The reason for this is that a lot of us find ourselves not paying attention to the things we actually want to do. Some people just don’t seem to care about what they want to do, and that’s okay. I’m not saying that you should give up on things, but you should think about them a little more.
Meditation is an incredibly effective tool for helping us to focus. I have been using it for years. But it’s also important to note that it is not a substitute for regular exercise. If you exercise regularly, you will be able to do much more if you have a better base of exercise. Meditation and exercise are great tools to learn, but they are not substitutes for each other.
